Liverpool fans have vented their fury after spotting a detail in their club announcement.

On Wednesday Liverpool announced their retained list ahead of the upcoming season with Thiago Alcantara and Joel Matip set to leave the club upon the end of the contracts.

The former featured 98 times upon his Bayern Munich arrival in 2020, lifting the FA Cup in that time, while the latter surpassed 200 appearances on Merseyside, scoring 11 goals and claiming seven honours, including the Champions League and Premier League.

Adam Lewis, Melkamu Frauendorf, Mateusz Musialowski and academy stars Nathan Giblin, Francis Gyimah, Luke Hewitson, Niall Osborne and Cody Pennington are also set to depart.

Contract offers have been made to academy stoppers Jacob Poytress and Reece Trueman as well as first-team keeper Adrian, who has made 26 appearances for Liverpool since joining the club in 2019.

And a contingent of fans on social media have hit out at the decision to hand Adrian a new deal with the club.

One person on X, formally Twitter, said: “How does Adrian keep getting away with this.”

Another added: “It is the year 2035 - Adrian, aged 48, is offered a contract extension as 3rd GK for Liverpool. He has last played a game more than 20 years ago but is considered a positive member of the team.

“He does take one spot for a non-HG player.”

A third said: “Not Adrian. Sorry, But he should be replaced by a HG keeper.”

A fourth wrote: “I don't know how to feel about Adrian's contract extension.

“Anyway please focus on signing DM and defence. Let's not wait to panic-buy when is too late.”
