Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he is prepared to take things into his own hands to ensure Liverpool extend the contracts of three of their biggest players.

After nine years as Liverpool boss, Klopp announced that he would be leaving the club at the end of the 2023/24 season.

Since leaving Anfield, the German has enjoyed some time away from the sport, but accepted the role of the Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull in October.

And in his first press conference in the role, he revealed that he still remains in close contact with his former club and is willing to use his influence to get the club to extend the contracts of their biggest stars.

As it stands, all three of Mohamed Salah, Vigil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are set to leave Liverpool in the summer when their current deals with the club expire.

Liverpool have reportedly been keen to extend the contracts of all three players, but are yet to agree on terms with any of them.

And now, Klopp has revealed that, although he is happy that he is not directly involved, he might text the Liverpool trio to convince them to stay with his former club.

"I'm so happy I'm not in charge in that situation and have to answer these questions now. So good luck," admitted the German.

"My point of view? I'd love all three to extend. I don't know, they didn't tell me. I could text them.”

When asked specifically about Salah, who is enjoying perhaps his best season with the club to date, Klopp had nothing but good things to say.

He added: “I hope he stays. He is Liverpool’s best striker in modern times - and they had many great ones. A fantastic player, a fantastic professional. Absolutely outstanding. The best ambassador Egypt could have."

The 57-year-old also revealed that he is in regular touch with several players, as well as current manager Arne Slot, and is pleased to see his former club performing so well without him.

“I'm so happy they're doing well, I'm in contact with Arne and some players," admitted Klopp.

"I watch as many games as I can and could, great football even if you don't support them you should watch. Maybe the best balanced in the world right now. I'm really, really happy about that."
