Jamie Carragher has picked the shock team to challenge for the Premier League title next season.

After Arne Slot's Liverpool won the 2024/25 Premier League title without much of a battle from any other side, some fans have already started looking ahead to next season.

The upcoming summer transfer window will undoubtedly play a large role in deciding who will be challenging for the title when gameweek one kicks off in September.

However, that didn't stop Liverpool legend Carragher from naming the four sides that he expects to be right at the very top of the table, and one of them may surprise you.

Having won the title in such dominant fashion this season, Liverpool will of course be one of the favourites to lift the title this time next year, and with Slot promising fans a busy transfer window, they are likely to improve in the coming months.

But with other clubs also expected to go big in the transfer market, Carragher believes that there are three other teams that could challenge Liverpool in 2025/26.

Speaking to Metro, he said: "I think it will be them two (City and Arsenal) who come back to challenge Liverpool,’ Carragher said. ‘City will go again in the market and Arsenal will do will do the same.

"But from that chasing pack, Newcastle could spring a surprise. If they keep their best players and just add one or two squad players, they are a top team.

"We saw that against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final and they can take any of those teams. They’ve got great support at home as well and in certain positions – especially centre forward and central midfield – they have players who are as good as anybody in the Premier League."

As it stands, Newcastle United are third in the Premier League table and are just five points behind Arsenal with four matches left this season.

However, only two points separates them and sixth-placed Nottingham Forest, meaning it is still very possible that the Geordies could slip up and miss ot on Champions League football next season.

Regardless, Newcastle will no doubt have to fight off bids from several clubs, including those rivalling them at the top of the Premier League table, for the likes of Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes, who will both be in high demand this summer.
