Jamie Carragher makes worrying admission about aspect of Liverpool's team, it's a big concern

The Anfield side are second in the Premier League table and just a point behind Arsenal

Jamie Carragher believes there is "something not right" about Liverpool's front three.

The Anfield side are second in the Premier League table and remain only a point from the summit after a 1-1 draw against Arsenal on Saturday evening.

Gabriel Magalhaes put the Gunners in front after just four minutes, but Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah cancelled that out before the half-hour mark.

That was how things stayed at Anfield as the spoils were ultimately shared between the two sides, meaning Arsenal remain a point ahead of second-placed Liverpool at the summit of the top flight and will be top of the table at Christmas.

Though Jurgen Klopp's team appear to be in the title race at this moment in time, there are issues with the Reds' team, and Carragher highlighted one of them after the draw against the Gunners.

This includes the front three positions in the team, which are principally filled by a combination of Salah, Darwin Nunez, Diaz and Gakpo, among others.

Of course, for many years, Salah was part of a deadly trio which terrorised defences in the Premier League and Europe along with Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

But Mane departed for Bayern Munich in the summer of 2022, while Firmino left earlier this year following the expiry of his Liverpool contract.

And speaking on the Gary Neville Podcast, Carragher believes there is something off currently with the Anfield side's forward line, naming both Gakpo and Diaz as players who must improve or Liverpool might have to consider bringing in reinforcements next summer.

He said: "Looking at Liverpool's front three, there's something not right about it. Gakpo has been here for nearly 12 months and he's had flashes but nowhere near enough. Diaz looks a shadow of himself after his knee injuries last season.

"I really feel that Diaz needs to have a good second half of the season otherwise Liverpool will be going into the market in the summer on the left-hand side. It just feels that with Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino going, they haven't replaced them in terms of quality."

Carragher continued: "I know Darwin Nunez started on the bench and he is on a poor run of form in terms of goals, but Nunez has to be almost the first names on the teamsheet. Even in the midweek Carabao Cup win over West Ham, he creates a goal and he creates panic, there's a feeling of even if it's not going well, he can run past someone or get a shot off. Somewhere he could do something.

"It feels like we are still making excuses for him but Liverpool have still got right now in terms of a front three is: Salah is your No 1, Nunez is your No 2 and then who else in the front three?"
