Bayern Munich could have a secret weapon up their sleeves in a bid to beat Liverpool to Xabi Alonso.

As we head towards the last few months of the 23/24 season, Bayer Leverkusen boss Alonso will dominate headlines in the near future.

This is because his side are on course win the Bundesliga, and also the fact that the Spaniard has been linked with both Bayern and Liverpool.

Liverpool are looking to replace Jurgen Klopp, who announced his departure last month.

Meanwhile, in Bavaria, Thomas Tuchel has also stated that he will leave the club when the season comes to a close.

Alonso has been linked with both clubs on the back of his impressive work with Leverkusen.

According to Caught Offside, German reporter Christian Falk has claimed that Bayern could have a secret weapon to lure Alonso to the club.

He wrote in the report: “It is no longer a secret that Xabi Alonso is the top candidate to succeed Jürgen Klopp. But FC Bayern now also has Alonso as number one on their wish list.

“The fact that Tuchel is still allowed to be coach until the summer also has to do with the fact that Bayern is waiting for Alonso.”

Falk continued: “The Bayern bosses are self-confident because so far they have gotten every coach they wanted. Even Pep Guardiola.

“They have a trump card in former CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. Because Rummenigge always kept in touch with Alonso and is considered a confidant of the Spaniard. So Liverpool have got a serious competitor.”

Speaking about his future last month, Alonso said: “To be honest I am not in this moment thinking about the next step. I am thinking about where I am right now and I think I am in a great place which I enjoy.

“I'm going to be happy if we play well and deserve to win. What's going to happen in the future... I don't know and I don't really care at the moment. Speculation is normal, my focus is here on Bayer Leverkusen.”
