Anfield erupted with boos following Liverpool’s draw with Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon, and so it appears pressure is back on Arne Slot’s position as manager of the Reds.
It was not the first chorus of boos heard at Anfield on Saturday as fans let their feelings known about Slot’s decision to substitute Rio Ngumhoa in the second half as his side chased a winner.
This point edged Liverpool closer to qualifying for the Champions League next season, as they now need three points to confirm this in their final two matches of the campaign.
However, while Slot may guide the Reds back to the elite European competition once again, it has not been a fantastic campaign under the Dutch manager.

Fans will understand that there have been reasons behind their struggles at times this campaign, including injuries to key players; yet, their performances, slow tempo and Slot’s tactical decisions have led to questions around the future of the manager.

Now, it has been suggested in AS Diario that Liverpool have approached contacts linked to Real Madrid regarding Xabi Alonso and what transpired under his tenure at the club.
The Reds were seeking an endorsement of Alonso from Los Blancos regarding their decision to hire Alonso, despite then letting him go following their defeat to Barcelona in the Supercopa.
According to the Spanish outlet, there appear to be doubts in the Liverpool hierarchy towards Alonso that they want to iron out before making the decision to replace Slot with the Basque manager.
If the hierarchy at Anfield does not deem it the right decision to make a move for Alonso, it is likely they will allow Slot to see out the final year of his Liverpool contract as a bare minimum before then assessing if the Dutch manager is the long-term solution for the club.
