Manchester United fans have been left furious with Arne Slot after hearing what the Liverpool manager said about the 2-2 draw between the two sides at Anfield.

United rescued a point late on through Amad Diallo's composed strike, after Mohamed Salah had put Liverpool ahead from the penalty spot on 70 minutes.

Cody Gakpo had earlier equalised for the hosts, just six minutes after Lisandro Martinez fired in a left-footed effort off the crossbar to hand United a 52nd-minute advantage.

Ruben Amorim's side almost won it late on, but the ball bobbled in front of Harry Maguire as he lined up an effort from 12 yards and his shot went over the crossbar.

The result ended a run of three consecutive defeats for United, and there will have been plenty of encouragement for away supporters in the way in which their side played at Anfield.

But Slot saw it differently and believed his side should have won the game.

Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: "They had a big chance just before the end, we also feel a bit relieved. But that might not be the story of the game, in my opinion.

"If you look at the game back, you see the first 20 or 25 minutes when we had two, three very good chances. We played against very good individuals, very good players. I said it many times now, and you can see it today again.

"It's also a chance for them against us, to show themselves again, more than against Wolves or other games, so then now they can compete against the best players in the league. Then you can see how they also have very good players.

"The game was played mostly in their half. In the last 15 minutes, you could see how well they could play - if they could play, because in the first 75 minutes they only hit the ball long with Onana.

"But in the last 15 minutes it was so open on both sides. You could see they were trying, that they were maybe better than they know themselves. But I think in the first 75 it was clear that we were more in control than them."

United fans, though, strongly disagreed with Slot's comments - particularly regarding goalkeeper Onana's use of the ball.

One wrote: "Did Arne Slot watch the same game? United only kicked the ball long with Onana for the first 75? Nonsense."

A second echoed that view: "Was Arne at a different game?"

A third claimed: "Arne Slot embarrassing himself. That's one of the most deluded interviews of all time."

And a fourth added: "Slot really disingenuous here. [Saying] Utd played a low block and Onana didn't take any risks, they mostly played the ball long. It isn't what happened at all in the game."
