Ruben Amorim has been tipped to take over one of the European heavyweights this summer. The 39-year-old won the title with Sporting in 2021 and is set to repeat that feat this season.

Indeed, he has been linked with the soon-to–be-vacant Liverpool job, with Jurgen Klopp set to leave the Reds at the end of the season, while Barcelona and Bayern Munich are also set to have managerial vacancies this summer.

Chelsea may also be in the market for a new manager this summer, with Mauricio Pochettino under pressure in west London.

The Independent claimed on Tuesday that Barcelona are trying to secure the appointment of Amorim, in the knowledge that he has now become the top choice for a series of major European giants.

The Catalan club were allegedly the favourites to bring in the Sporting coach until last week, when it emerged that Xabi Alonso would be staying at Bayer Leverkusen for one more season.

Alonso had reportedly been the outstanding choice for several clubs, and Barcelona were more preoccupied with procuring Amorim because they felt he was more attainable than the Bayer Leverkusen boss.

Liverpool and Bayern are now thought to be interested in the Portuguese manager, and the Reds could have an advantage over their rivals.

Sporting’s captain Sebastián Coates is a former Liverpool defender, and may talk up the merits of a move to Anfield over alternative options.

Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi has also been linked with the Liverpool job, as has Inter manager Simone Inzaghi.

Furthermore, the Independent have claimed Julian Nagelsmann is also being given much greater consideration by a series of clubs.

The German national team manager would allegedly be willing to go back into club management after the European Championships.
