Liverpool flop who played just 13 minutes now labelled the 'best player in his league'

The former Liverpool man has turned his career around after leaving Anfield

A Liverpool flop who only played 13 minutes for the club has now been labelled as the best player in his league.

During the summer transfer window back in 2022, Liverpool were hit with a series of injuries to their midfielders.

At the time, the likes of Thiago Alcantara, Jordan Henderson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita were all sidelined.

As a result, manager Jurgen Klopp decided to dip into the transfer market to ease the midfield crisis.

In came Brazilian midfielder Arthur Melo, who joined the club on a season-long loan from Serie A giants Juventus.

It was reported that Liverpool paid a loan fee of £3.9 million to bring the Juventus man to Merseyside.

Arthur made his Liverpool debut in the Champions League during a dismal 4-1 defeat by Italian side Napoli.

The midfielder played a total of 13 minutes, which turned out to be his first and last minutes for the Anfield club.

Arthur then suffered a long-term injury which ended his season prematurely and he later returned to Juventus on the back of his loan deal.

At the start of the 23/24 season, Arthur joined Fiorentina, where he started to reignite his career.

Speaking recently, the player’s agent, Federico Pastorello said to Radio Serie A: “I am very happy for Arthur. Last year was a difficult season for him from all points of view. He landed at Liverpool at the end of the transfer window, thus missing training, then he suffered a serious injury.

“Fiorentina were good at seeing the opportunity. And, today, Arthur is perhaps the best player in the league.”

He added: “20 million euros? I would say (he could leave Juventus) for even more. (The clause) was put in because it was right to do so, then there is also the issue of salary because it doesn’t fall within the parameters of La Viola. But we are only halfway through the adventure.

“We are focused on continuing like this, then at the end of the season we will draw conclusions. I can only say one thing. Arthur feels great in Florence, even off the pitch the fans welcomed him in an extraordinary way. And this, as a former Juventus player, was not at all obvious.”
