Alexis Mac Allister snubs Virgil van Dijk when naming Liverpool’s strongest player

Alexis Mac Allister has snubbed Virgil van Dijk when picking Liverpool’s strongest player.

Argentine World Cup winner Mac Allister joined Liverpool in the summer from Brighton and Hove Albion.

The 24-year-old arrived as part of a midfield overhaul that also saw Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch join the Anfield club.

When talking about Liverpool’s strongest players, many fans will automatically pick Van Dijk as he is the rock at the heart of their defence.

However, according to Mac Allister, Van Dijk is not the strongest player in Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

Speaking to GOAL, the Argentine midfielder said: “I would say Mo, or [Kostas] Tsimikas.”

When asked to explain his decision to pick Mohammed Salah, Mac Allister said: “Oh, yes. He’s all day in the gym, so he is very strong.”

In a previous interview with France Football, Salah explained just how important his body is to him.

He said: “Two rooms in our house are dedicated to different fitness machines, bodybuilding.

“At home I can also do cryotherapy, there is a hyperbaric chamber. I am constantly looking to improve my physical condition.”

Salah continued: “It's true that I like to say that my house looks like a hospital, [but] my wife doesn't like that! [She] says that I spend more time with my machines than with her!

“When I indulge in a great restaurant in London, I prefer sushi. I eat pizza once a month at the most. I love hamburgers , but I hardly ever eat them because afterwards I feel heavy!”

After what was a torrid 22/23 season for Liverpool that resulted in a failure to qualify for the Champions League, they have made a decent start to the new campaign.

On Saturday, they showed their spirit as they came from 1-0 down to win 3-1 against Wolverhampton Wanderers, thanks to goals from Cody Gakpo, Andy Robertson and an own goal by Hugo Bueno.

Liverpool will be back in action on Thursday night as they begin their Europa League campaign against LASK.
