Jose Mourinho's finest bit of sh**housery came at the expense of one of his own players back in 2009.

The legendary manager, currently at Fenerbahce, is one of the most entertaining personalities in the history of football and one of the best stories which sums up involves Zlatan Ibrahimovic during their time together at Inter Milan.

Near the end of the 2008/09 season, Inter hosted Siena at the San Siro and claimed a 3-0 victory. Ibrahimovic repeatedly asked to be substituted but Mourinho was having none of it and decided that the Swede was not trying hard enough.

Luis Figo and Mario Balotelli were both taken off for Davide Santon and Mancini before Ibrahimovic notched the third goal with an emphatic left-footed finish in the 73rd minute.

Immediately after Ibrahimovic found the net, Mourinho then made his third and final substitution but it took everyone by surprise. Ibrahimovic was kept on the pitch and watched in disbelief as goalkeeper Julio Cesar was replaced by second-choice shotstopper Paolo Orlandoni.

Ibrahimovic therefore had to play a full 90 minutes in the game and in 2014, Mourinho discussed the incident and explained why he persisted with keeping his No.9 on the pitch.

As per Sky Sports, Mourinho said: "He was very angry and upset as he came at me. He was shouting, 'We are champions, I helped a lot to make you champions, now nobody's helping me. I want to [come off] now'.

"But I pretended not to understand him. I said, 'What? What? Do you want a drink, do you want some water?' and I threw him a bottle. I told him, 'Here, take a drink and go'. A few minutes later he scored a beautiful goal."

Inter were crowned champions a day prior to the game with Siena as rivals AC Milan fell to a 2-1 defeat away at Udinese.

Ibrahimovic also won the Golden Boot by a single goal, beating both Diego Milito and Marco Di Vaio after scoring 25 times in the league.

He would leave for Barcelona in the summer, with Samuel Eto'o heading in the opposition direction and helping Inter win the treble in the 2009/10 campaign.

However, Mourinho and Ibrahimovic were reunited at Manchester United, winning both the Carabao Cup and Europa League in 2017.

Mourinho hails Ibrahimovic

Mourinho has managed plenty of world-class players over the years but he has a special bond with Ibrahimovic, stating: "A player who gave me as much as Ibra will always be in my heart. He did a lot for Inter and Inter did a lot for him. I like seeing Ibra.

"I greet him whenever I get the chance to and I wish him all the best - except when he plays against me. He is very special, he is one of the best strikers in the world."
