A new Netflix documentary has made claims about the private life of late footballer Jlloyd Samuel.

Samuel spent over a decade in the Premier League playing for Aston Villa and Bolton Wanderers between 1999 and 2010, before joining Cardiff on loan and seeing out the final four years of his career in Iran.

The defender, who made a smattering of appearances for England's youth teams before picking up two caps for Trinidad and Tobago, then joined Egerton as a player-manager upon his return from Iran.

However, he passed away at the age of 37 after his Range Rover collided with a van on 15 May 2018. Samuel had been returning home after dropping his children off at school and died at the scene, while the other driver was severely injured.

An inquest following his death found Samuel had been over the legal drink driving limit, but a toxicologist added that the body can sometimes produce alcohol after death. Meanwhile, it was found that Samuel’s car had been on the wrong side of the road, causing a head-on collision.

Samuel’s life and death were covered in a 2022 ITV documentary entitled The Footballer, His Wife, and the Crash, which days ago was picked up by Netflix.

And some of the claims within the documentary have caused a stir on social media.

The Footballer, His Wife, and the Crash claimed that Jlloyd had been living a double life with a secret second wife he had met while playing in Iran.

The documentary also alleged that Samuel had converted to Islam to marry her.

Indeed, Samuel’s first wife Emma had allegedly met her husband's supposed second wife when visiting the footballer in Dubai. The other woman is said to have introduced herself as a fortune teller.
