Jamie Carragher has revealed the time he 'lost his head' and was made to apologise to the Liverpool dressing room after nearly coming to blows with his own teammate.

Carragher was told he had to apologise in front of the dressing room after having an angry exchange with Alvaro Arbeloa during a match.

He brought up the Liverpool moment as he weighed in on Jadon Sancho's public fallout with Erik ten Hag, who gave an update following Manchester United's Carabao Cup victory over Crystal Palace.

Sancho has been banished from the first-team after failing to apologise for his social media statement following his omission against Arsenal.

The Liverpool legend referenced his own apology he had to give during his Liverpool career after an on-field bust-up with Arbeloa.

He also insists the star winger should apologise in a bid to get his Man United career back on track following an underwhelming start to his Old Trafford spell.

"I had it a couple of times. I had to apologise in front of the dressing room. I nearly got into a fight on the pitch with my own teammate. So, I had to go in and apologise," said Carragher on The Overlap's Welcome to Stick to Football podcast in partnership with Sky Bet.

After revealing he almost came to blows with Arbeloa, he added: "We nearly came to blows on the pitch and then after the game, you think that was a bit much. I tried to apologise after the game.

"You lose your head again a little bit," he said after revealing the Spanish defender turned down his initial apology. "But the next day, the manager said, 'no you've got to apologise in front of all the team'."

On Sancho's situation with Ten Hag, Carragher continued: "Sometimes you got to say 'sorry'. That's it. And you move on, forget it. You might not fully believe it but at the end of the day, he's your manager. He's your boss.

"What's he going to do - stay in the reserves? You want to get your Manchester United career going and if all it takes is to shake the fella's hand, say sorry and let's move on and forget about it."

Jamie Carragher was speaking on The Overlap’s Stick to Football podcast, in partnership with Sky Bet.
