Hull City's Jaden Philogene has been cruelly denied 'goal of the century' after outrageous Rabona effort

Hull City's Jaden Philogene has been cruelly denied 'goal of the century' after outrageous Rabona effort

Jaden Philogene thought he'd equalised with an outrageous Rabona attempt against Rotherham on Tuesday night.

Hull City winger Jaden Philogene was denied one of the all-time great goals on Tuesday after he produced an outrageous Rabona strike in their Championship clash against Rotherham.

The 22-year-old, who joined Hull from Aston Villa in the summer after being heavily linked with a move to Liverpool, has been one of the club's standout performers in recent weeks.

Philogene has notched seven goals and five assists in just 16 league games for Liam Rosenior's side and on Tuesday night, the highly-rated England U21 international was at his sparkling best.

In fact, after beating Oliver Rathbone with a wonderful piece of skill, Philogene looked like he'd added to his tally this season with an audacious Rabona chip over Rotherham goalkeeper Viktor Johansson.

Check out that ridiculous effort below:

At first, it looked like Philogene had scored one of the goals of the century but the strike took a slight deflection off Cameron Humphreys' shoulder, meaning it was cruelly chalked down as an own goal.

Still, it was effort that got people talking on social media.

One said: "Jaden Philogene is absolutely ridiculous. Wow," while another commented: "Philogene-Bidace is far too good for the championship, that is an absolute joke."

A third wrote: "This goal from Jaden Philogene tonight for Hull City at Rotherham United is just ridiculous. The kind of stuff you’d spend a lifetime attempting but always failing to get right. He really looks like a talent."

A fourth said: "This is unreal. Philogene was one of Villa’s best players in pre-season and even Emery said he surprised him. He was then POTM on his England U21 debut and he’s doing well at Hull. Big future for him."

A fifth added: "Just to warn you, Jaden Philogene may have just scored goal of the century."

After going 1-0 behind after just four minutes, Hull City would go on to secure all three points as second-half goals from Humphreys [OG] and Noah Ohio sealed a 2-1 win at the New York Stadium.
