ITV are set to introduce a new pundit for their Euro 2024 last 16 matches after the departure of Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl.

The German was involved in Euro 2024 coverage throughout the group stage, with fans praising his insights and tactical analysis.

Rohl is currently in charge of Championship side Sheffield Wednesday, meaning he left his role early in order to prepare for the Owls' pre-season campaign.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has been involved in coverage over the past week, joining regular pundits Roy Keane, Gary Neville, Ian Wright, Graeme Souness, Eni Aluko and Karen Carney.

But they are set to be joined by a new face for the knockout stages.

The former Middlesbrough and Spain midfielder Gaizka Mendieta is listed as a pundit for the Spain versus Georgia and France versus Belgium games. Both of those matches take place on Sunday.

The Spaniard has regularly covered international matches at past tournaments for ITV, and also has a role with UEFA.

The 48-year-old spent much of his professional career in Spain, and had a successful eight-year spell at Valencia.

After a loan spell at Barcelona, he joined Middlesbrough on loan in 2003 before making the deal permanent a year later.

The midfielder helped Boro to reach the UEFA Cup final in 2006, and retired from professional football at the age of 34 in 2008. He represented both Spain and the non-FIFA affiliated Basque Country at international level during his career, picking up a combined 47 caps.

Following retirement, Mendieta has taken up punditry as one of a range of different roles, and was also a popular feature of coverage when Sky Sports broadcast La Liga matches.

ITV have confirmed that the midfielder will be appearing on both France versus Belgium and Spain versus Georgia, with pundit lineups for future matches still to be confirmed.
