The 100 best footballers of all time have been ranked.

Over the last couple of decades, many football fans have been arguing about whether Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo is the greatest football player of all time.

After Messi clinched the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, many feel he has cemented his place as the undisputed GOAT of the sport.

Apart from Messi and Ronaldo, there are the likes of Pele, Diego Maradona and Johan Cruyff who are also highly respected.

According to GDC Media Messi is the best player in football history, beating Ronaldo who was ranked second.

In third place was Brazil legend Pele, Maradona was fourth and former Real Madrid striker Alfredo Di Stefano rounded off the top five.

However, there are some controversial decisions. For example, former Real Madrid and Manchester United winger Angel di Maria was ranked 17th ahead of the likes of Kaka, Andres Iniesta, Ronaldinho and Iker Casillas.

Di Maria played a big part in helping Argentina win the 2022 World Cup in Qatar but many feel he does not deserve to be ranked that highly.

The highest-ranked English player is Sir Bobby Charlton, who was named in 34th place. The other four English representatives were Paul Scholes(67), David Beckham(78), Steven Gerrard(82) and Frank Lampard(83).

Former England and Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney, who is one of the Premier League’s best-ever players was not included in the top 100.

Another controversial call was the decision to name Thierry Henry in 58th place.

France legend Henry is often regarded as one of the best players to grace the football pitch and is often labelled as the best player the Premier League has ever seen.

Throughout his illustrious career, Henry has lifted multiple big trophies including the Premier League, Champions League, Euro and the World Cup.
