Harry Maguire instantly posted on social media after Leeds lost Championship play-off final

Manchester United's Harry Maguire appeared to aim a dig at Leeds United.

Harry Maguire instantly posted on social media following Leeds United's crushing Championship play-off final defeat.

Southampton beat Leeds 1-0 on Sunday to book their spot in next season's Premier League campaign.

Adam Armstrong scored the only goal of the game as the Saints return to England's top flight at the first time of asking.

Southampton's victory at Wembley Stadium is good news for Manchester City, who are set to receive a £20 million windfall.

As for Leeds, they will remain in the second tier following yet another disappointing visit to Wembley.

Leeds' misery was compounded as Maguire took to social media to aim a brutal dig.

A day after Manchester United beat Manchester City to win the FA Cup, the defender, formerly of Sheffield United, posted an image of a TV, where he had watched Southampton beat Leeds, accompanied with the caption: "Hope everyone having a fantastic Sunday."

Maguire didn't play in his side's triumph over Man City as he was ruled out through injury, but he was a part of their celebrations.

Leeds, who recorded an impressive 90 points in the league this season, will have to wait another year before facing Man United in a league fixture.

Speaking after his team's defeat, Daniel Farke said: "As you can imagine, it could not be worse. Suffering a lot in this moment. Deeply disappointed because once you come so close with 90 points, great two legs against Norwich.

"Today, we were not the worst side in this final and it hurts a lot. Do not want to miss congratulations to Southampton. Defended really well. Had their one chance and were clinical in this moment. Only stat that matters is the goals.

"We had more possession, xG, chances and shots. Southampton defended really well and were clinical. All the best in the Premier League to them. Hurts so much when you are this close."
