Gerard Pique has claimed Sergio Aguero "went crazy" and caused a huge rule change to his Kings League project.

Pique set up the seven-a-side league back in 2022, initially kicking off in Spain and expanding to Central and South America, Italy and Brazil.

The competition, which has been partnered with Twitch, YouTube and TikTok, has a unique set of rules voted by the public to give the 40-minute games a totally different feel.

Each team has 10 players in their squad from the draft but they are also allowed guest spots, which are typically reserved for well-known stars.

Aguero has played for 'Kunsports', the team he owns, while Iker Casillas, Ronaldinho, Javier Hernandez, Joan Capdevila and Pablo Hernandez have also turned out.

However, according to Pique, the former Manchester City star was solely responsible for the introduction after splashing out huge amounts on guest players.

"Kun has a team in the Spanish league," Pique said on a stream with Adin Ross.

"And he plays with his team sometimes. It's seven-a-side, 10 players come from the draft like the NBA or NFL and then you have three franchise players where you can pick whoever you want every week.

"You can pay [Lionel] Messi one game to play, obviously he has a contract right now with Inter Miami so I don't think Inter Miami would allow Messi to play but those three players you can bring whoever you want.

"We put the salary cap because at some point, Kun Aguero went crazy and started offering crazy money. The other streamers, they asked, 'please put in the salary cap, you're destroying the league'."

Ronaldinho's shock Kings League wage revealed

Though Aguero was prepared to pay mammoth salaries, Ronaldinho did not earn big bucks during his brief time with the Kings League.

After his debut was announced in a social media cafe skit, Ronaldinho turned out for Porcinos FC, the team owned by Ibai Llanos, Twitch streamer and Pique's business partner.

Business Insider, via AS, reported that Ronaldinho's contract stipulated he would only earn €70 (£61.50) as a base salary.

However, with a peak audience of 2.1 million viewers tuning in for his showing, it was claimed Kosmos, paid Ronaldinho a fee between €10,000 and €15,000 for his participation.

He then became the president of the Brazilian version of the Kings League.
