Gary Lineker has a quartet of dream guests he would like to one day have the chance to interview on The Rest is Football podcast.

Lineker hosts the show along with long-time Match of the Day partners Alan Shearer and Micah Richards and there have already been a number of high-profile guests feature so far, including Alexis Mac Allister and Rodri in recent weeks.

And it is a group of Liverpool and Manchester City players who make up Lineker's list of interviewees he's particularly keen to eventually get onto the podcast, along with England captain and Bayern Munich star Harry Kane.

The 64-year-old also revealed that Richards has talked up the prospect of getting another current England international to appear on the show after using his contacts in the game to try and secure another big-name guest.

"Micah Richards, but he doesn’t show up sometimes," Lineker joked when asked by SPORTbible who his dream guests would be for the podcast.

"We’ve managed to get a few good guests but someone like Mo Salah. Thinking of the Premier League - Kevin De Bruyne, Erling Haaland and Harry Kane just to name but a few.

"Jude Bellingham would be amazing, someone like that. Micah has promised us he’s going to get him."

Lineker, who was speaking at a live recording of the podcast alongside Shearer and former West Ham manager David Moyes, discussed how Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers will feature as one of the upcoming guests.

The former England striker explained why the anecdotes and insights footballers are able to offer about their teammates and rivals make for some of the most interesting content when interviewing current Premier League stars.

"We’re doing [an episode with Morgan [Rogers] soon because we’re not just about the big boys on our podcast, we like to cover everybody which is fun," he explained.

"We had Longstaff on earlier this season, players from different clubs is a nice thing to get as well as superstars.

"Getting footballers’ angles on other footballers works and we understand how things do work and I think we make that interesting, as well as bringing out the fun side of things if we can.

"We’re all serious at times but we like to poke fun at ourselves and enjoy ourselves."
