Gabby Agbonlahor made some controversial decisions as he picks combined Man United and Aston Villa XI

Gabby Agbonlahor only picked five Manchester United stars as he named his combined XI made up of Red Devils and Aston Villa players.

So far this summer, Villa have been one of the biggest spending clubs after signing the likes of Moussa Diaby and Pau Torres for around €88 million.

Meanwhile, United secured the likes of Mason Mount and Andre Onana.

Ahead of the new season, former Villa man Agbonlahor was tasked with picking a combined XI made up of United and Villa players.

He said on talkSPORT: “I'm going the World Cup winner, best goalkeeper in the world, Martinez in goal.

“Left-back I'm going to go Luke Shaw, although [Alex] Moreno is a very good player. [Lisandro] Martinez left-sided centre-back, Manchester United.

“[Ezri] Konsa, I'm putting him right-sided centre-half. No [Raphael] Varane, no [Harry Maguire]. Right-back, [Aaron] Wan-Bissaka because I really like him, I'm not really fussed about my right-back being the best at crossing. No one gets past him.”

Agbonlahor continued: “Midfield's quite simple for me. Casemiro's a very good player, not at the best in his career, he's not making my midfield. I've got Douglas Luiz, outstanding player, and John McGinn.

“In front of them, in a free role, Fernandes. He has to be in there in front of [Emi] Buendia.”

On his decision to snub Mount, Agbonlahor said: “Mason Mount doesn’t get close to this team. I’m having McGinn every day!”

Marcus Rashford was the sole United representative in Agbonlahor’s front three.

He said: “Rashford on the left, I think that picks itself quite easily, Marcus Rashford.

“And then on the right, very easy, you've got Antony - he couldn't do anything last season, nothing. So I've got Diaby.

“I've watched this guy - unbelievable. You'll see this season, he's frightening quick, left foot, his goal against Brentford was very good as well. He will score many goals and assists this season.”

The former striker added: “And up front is quite easy - Watkins. Who you going to choose? [Wout] Weghorst who's gone back? [Anthony] Martial? [Rasmus] Hojlund will be a good player but he's unproven in the Premier League at the moment.”

Villa will kick off their Premier League campaign against Newcastle whilst United will take on Wolverhampton Wanderers.
