Frank Lampard could make a sensational return to management, according to the bookies.

Lampard has been out of work since his dismissal at Everton in January 2023.

He was in the Goodison Park hotseat for less than a year, having joined the club following his caretaker stint at Chelsea.

The 45-year-old was briefly linked with the managerial position at Rangers before the Scottish club appointed Philippe Clement.

But the Chelsea legend could be set to return to management as he's in the frame for the Bristol City vacancy.

He's the odds-on favourite to replace Nigel Pearson at the Ashton Gate outfit.

Pearson was relieved of his duties at City on Sunday following the club's 2-0 defeat to Cardiff City.

Lampard has become the clear favourite to take charge of the Championship side, with his odds as short as 1/4 with SkyBet.

The former England international potentially being hired by City got fans online talking.

One X user wrote: "Are you kidding I don’t think any City fan wants Lampard."

A second tweeted: "Probably better than Rooney but still not a very good manager."

A third argued: "Honestly, I would be perfectly happy with Lampard. Got Derby to a play-off final, a dreadful Chelsea side a top 4 finish and kept Everton in the PL."

Lampard has worked in England's second tier before, having steered Derby County to the Championship play-off final in the 2018/19 campaign.

However, he failed to secure promotion as his then-side lost 2-1 to Aston Villa.

A return to management in the Championship could be on the cards, with the Robins currently occupying 15th place in the table.

They have 18 points on the board, having won five of their 14 league games this season.

City have lost back-to-back leagues matches, losing to Ipswich Town and Cardiff.

They resume their league campaign on Saturday when they host Sheffield Wednesday.

Will Lampard become the next City manager? Watch this space.
