Brazil and Norway are set to play in the World Cup round of 16, and Wayne Rooney has made a hilarious promise for the fixture.
Norway secured their first-ever knockout victory in the World Cup as they beat the Ivory Coast 2-1 to progress through the round of 32, while the Brazilians overcame Japan on the same scoreline to set up the tie.
Brazil will be seen as favourites for the fixture; however, Norway possesses several dangerous players that could trouble the five-time World Cup winners, as Erling Haaland once again proved why he is a force to be reckoned with as he scored the winner against the Ivory Coast.
Yet, Wayne Rooney does not believe the Norwegians have any real chance of progressing to the quarter-final of the World Cup due to the quality and prestige of their next opponents, Brazil.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side have grown into the competition after their 1-1 draw with Morocco in the first game with confident victories against Haiti and Scotland before overcoming a tough Japanese outfit.
Speaking on the BBC, Rooney said: “If Norway get to the quarter-finals, I’ll go to the River Mersey and I’ll row down it.”

This statement was in response to Gabby Logan’s statement that if Norway beat Brazil, there is a possibility that they would face England in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
For such a scenario to be possible England would have to overcome the Democratic Republic of Congo in the round of 32 before facing either Mexico or Ecuador at the Estadio Azteca in the round of 16.
As Rooney made this statement, he may not have been aware of Norway’s record against Brazil, with the European side having never tasted defeat to the South American nation.
Norway won the only competitive match between the two teams, which took place at the 1998 World Cup in Marseille, where the Europeans emerged as 2-1 victors; they also secured a 4-2 win in a friendly match in 1997.
The first match ever played between the two sides was a draw all the way back in July 1988, while their most recent clash also ended in a draw when they squared off in August 2006.
