A shock manager is in line to replace Erik ten Hag at Manchester United, it has been claimed.

A shock manager is in line to replace Erik ten Hag at Manchester United, it has been claimed.

The Sun has reported that United players fear Ten Hag has now resigned himself to the sack at the end of the season, with several of the playing staff having noticed a change in the Dutchman’s demeanour in recent weeks.

The publication alleged that the manager’s change of mood was triggered after the new part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe refused to deliver a public vote of confidence.

The Old Trafford club are sixth in the Premier League, some 11 points adrift of the fourth spot having claimed just one win in six games.

Last week, United claimed a tepid draw with Brentford and a devastating 4-3 defeat to Chelsea before drawing 2-2 with bitter rivals Liverpool.

Nevertheless, speaking to Sky Sports last Friday Ten Hag insisted he “has no doubts” he will be in charge of United next term.

"I don't have any doubts," Ten Hag said. "I'm just focusing on my job, focusing on this process, in this project. I really love to be here, I'm enjoying it. For me, it's a challenge.

"It will not go always in the right way, it's not going always the results in the way we wanted but I'm sure we're in the right direction and we will get where we want to be.”

The Sun have alleged however that former Brighton manager Graham Potter is in line to take over after meeting with Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Sky Sports claimed earlier this week that Potter is not keen on taking over as Ajax manager, despite having held talks with the struggling Dutch giants.

The ex-Chelsea and Brighton boss is said to have been a prime target for them after recently holding discussions about the role. However, he is said to not be eager to progress things further at this stage
