A footballer who proposed to his then-girlfriend on the pitch has announced that their relationship is over, just three days after making the gesture.
Derrickson Quiros, who plays for Guatemalan top-tier side Club Xelaju, went viral over the weekend after asking his girlfriend for her hand in marriage following a 4-2 win against Marquense.
As seen in the footage below, Quiros got down on one knee at the Mario Camposeco stadium and, after his partner said yes, hundreds of fans congratulated the couple with a round of applause.
The midfielder proceeded to share the moment on social media alongside the caption: "My life partner, I love you so much."
However, just three days after the romantic scene in Guatemala and Quiros revealed on his Instagram story that the engagement had come to an abrupt end.
"Yes, it's true that my relationship (engagement) ended. It was a difficult personal situation, like any breakup, but I prefer to handle it with respect and maturity," he wrote on Instagram, as per Mexican publication Latinus.
"I'm not going to speak ill of anyone, nor go into details, because it was a relationship that was important to me at the time."
Quiros added: "Now I'm focused on my career, my team, and continuing to grow as a person. I appreciate everyone's support and hope they can respect this moment. Thank you."
As well as the player himself, Quiros' ex-fiancee took to social media to speak out. "In the end, there will never be a better answer than the one that silence offers," she said, as per Globo.

Back in August, a fan in the stands decided to propose to his other half as thousands watched Spurs kick off their Premier League campaign against Burnley.
While the likes of Mathys Tel, Djed Spence and Pape Sarr could be seen in the background, the supporter took off a jacket to reveal a Spurs home shirt featuring the words 'Marry Me 13' on the back.
He got the answer he wanted before holding up a second shirt that read: "Yes I do" with the No.14.
It appears the gesture was a genuine one as opposed to a viral staged stunt and the moment was cheered and applauded by a section of nearby fans.
