A compilation of Declan Rice's performance in the Euro 2024 final has gone viral, but not for the right reasons.

On Sunday England suffered a 2-1 defeat to Spain in the final of Euro 2024, extending their wait to win a second men's major tournament to at least 60 years.

In truth England didn't deserve to become European champions for the first time, with Spain the better side throughout the tournament and in Sunday's final.

England produced another slow and uninspiring performance but burst into life when Cole Palmer cancelled out Nico Williams' opener with less than 20 minutes left to play.

Gareth Southgate's side were sucker-punched by Mikel Oyarzabal's 86th minute winner, although they did have a golden opportunity to draw level in the dying seconds.

A corner ended up with Declan Rice heading over the crossbar after Unai Simon had saved his initial effort and Dani Olmo cleared Marc Guehi's rebound off the goal line.

Rice is probably not the man any England fan would want a late chance to fall to, and his miss summed up his evening.

The Arsenal midfielder struggled throughout the match, repeatedly selling his teammates short with passes and failing to make interventions when needed.

Spain's midfield star Rodri - later named UEFA's Player of the Tournament - only played 45 minutes due to injury, but his typically calm performance stood in stark contrast to Rice's.

Although Rice was sloppy in possession, completing 78 per cent of his attempted passes, his underlying stats don't appear too bad.

But what the stats don't show are the moments Spanish players breezed past the 25-year-old, or the moment he decided to stoop so low to try and chest the ball that he ended up getting kicked in the ribcage, or his reluctance to progress the ball upfield or make himself available to receive the ball from Jordan Pickford.

A 'highlights' compilation of Rice's performance has gone viral on X, and fans have voiced their disappointment with the Arsenal man.

"I can’t believe this is a £100 million player. That money used to get you [Paul] Pogba," one fan commented.

Another wrote: "If this is a £100m player, football is in a dark dark place."

A third fan simply said: "What a horrible player."
