Former Manchester City star David Silva is reportedly considering retirement after suffering a serious injury.

Silva first arrived in England back in 2010 when he joined City from Valencia in a deal worth a reported £30 million.

The Spaniard went on to become one of the finest players to ever grace the Premier League.

In total, he made 436 appearances for the Etihad club, scoring 77 and winning four Premier League titles, two FA Cups and five League Cups.

After leaving Manchester, Silva returned to Spain when he signed for La Liga side Real Sociedad.

The 37-year-old has so far played 93 matches, scoring seven.

However, ahead of the 23/24 season, Silva’s future has been plunged into darkness after a heart-breaking injury.

A statement from Sociedad read: “David Silva had to leave yesterday’s training session due to discomfort in his left knee.

“In the imaging tests performed, an anterior cruciate ligament injury was observed. At this moment it is pending to be evaluated by a specialist, something that will take place next week.”

On the back of this news, it has been claimed that Silva could announce his retirement very soon.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano tweeted: “David Silva, now seriously considering to announce retirement from professional football after suffering an ACL injury in Real Sociedad preseason training.

“Decision to be made very soon.”

Whilst Spanish news outlet El Larguero has also reported that Silva will make an announcement soon as it has been suggested he feels he will not recover in time to make a return to football.

When announcing his emotional departure from City back in 2020, Silva wrote: “The time has arrived. Ten years and 13 titles later, it's time for me to say goodbye to the club that has left an indelible mark on my life and career.

“I look back and it's clear I could not have made a better decision than to accept City's proposal to join their project back in 2010.”
