John Terry labelled the BBC “a disgrace” for their comment on Cristiano Ronaldo in the wake of Portugal’s victory over Slovenia.

Ronaldo extended his career-low goal drought in international tournaments to eight games after drawing a blank in a last-16 tie against Slovenia on Monday.

The 39-year-old even sobbed upon missing a spot-kick in extra time, with his teammates having to console the five-time Ballon d’Or winner at the break.

That didn’t stop the BBC from labelling the graphic during the analysis of the missed penalty as 'Misstiano Penaldo'.

The pun drew the ire of John Terry in particular, with the former Chelsea and England skipper sharing a photo of the BBC caption on Instagram and adding: "BBC this is a disgrace!"

After a gruelling goalless draw, Portugal went on to win the game on penalties, with Ronaldo netting the first of his side's spot-kicks and goalkeeper Diogo Costa saving three Slovenian attempts.

After the game, Ronaldo said: "Even the strongest people have their [bad] days. I was at rock bottom when the team needed me the most.

"Sadness at the start is joy at the end. That's what football is. Moments, inexplicable moments.

"A penalty to give the team the lead. I didn't manage it. Oblak made a good save. I have to see the penalty, I don't know if I shot well or badly, but I haven't missed once all year, and when I needed it most, Oblak saved it.

"I think Portugal deserved it because we had more authority. Slovenia spent almost the entire game defending. It's very difficult and the whole team is to be congratulated, especially our goalkeeper, who made three very good saves."
