Fans think Cristiano Ronaldo has aimed a cheeky dig at Lionel Messi in his response to Elon Musk.

Last month, five-time Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldo scored twice for Al Nassr as they beat Al Gharafa 3-1 in the AFC Champions League.

After the match, the Portuguese took to social media to post a series of images from the game, with a caption that read: "Big win tonight!"

Replying to Ronaldo's tweet, Tesla and X owner Musk wrote: "Congrats!"

In response to Musk, Ronaldo delivered an eight word message, which said: "Glad your eyes have time for good “soccer”."

Reacting on social media, fans felt Ronaldo had aimed a slight dig at Messi, who is now plying his trade in the United States of America playing for Inter Miami.

'Soccer' is also the popular term used in the States for football.

One fan said: "MY GOATTTTT."

Another tweeted: "A real tweet thats not PR..."

A third fan added: "That is why he is the Goat."

However, it could be that Ronaldo is simply using the word 'soccer' due to Musk being a US citizen.

So far, Ronaldo has scored 913 goals in what has been an illustrious career.

Speaking earlier in the year, the 39-year-old outlined his ambition to reach 1000 career goals during a chat with former Manchester United teammate Rio Ferdinand on YouTube.

He said: “I know I’m still looking good, I look good, I feel I can still dribble, shoot, score goals and jump. The day that I start to feel that I’m producing nothing, listen, I pack my bags and I go away.

“But it’s far from that because as I told you, I don’t want to be cocky, I scored 60 goals this season(23/24). Then the people say I didn’t score in five matches in the Euros, I scored 130, I’m the most goal scorer in history. I will put the level even higher.”

The 39-year-old continued: “Soon I will do 900 and, after, I will beat 1,000. I want to reach 1,000 goals. If I don’t have injuries, this, for me, is the most important. I want that.

“It’s the best marker I can have in football. There will be one difference: all of my goals have videos, so I can prove that.”
