Fans think Chelsea have mocked Phil Foden after the Manchester City star's performance against Liverpool - with a post about Cole Palmer.

City's 1-1 draw with Liverpool saw Foden struggle to make an impact in proceedings - a rarity for the 23-year-old after an incredible season thus far.

The attacking midfielder is almost certain to start for England at Euro 2024, but did endure an off-day at Anfield as City held on for a point in the latter stages.

Chelsea, meanwhile, beat Newcastle 3-2 on Monday, with Palmer putting in another star performance.

The former City midfielder now has 11 goals and eight assists in 23 games in his debut Premier League season - and has been one of few bright spots for Chelsea in an otherwise difficult season thus far.

Following the victory, the Blues' X (Twitter) account posted a photo of Palmer in a cryotherapy chamber, wearing a mask.

They captioned the post: "That's why they call him Cold Palmer."

Some Blues fans think the post is a direct callback to a photo that City posted just 20 minutes after the Blues lost in the Carabao Cup final to Liverpool - which showed Foden stood in a cryotherapy chamber.

It was captioned with three shivering emojis - with supporters believing it was a reference to Palmer's nickname, especially as both are wearing bobble hats.

But while the timing of City's post appears to be nothing more than coincidental, fans think Chelsea's post was a direct response.

Speaking after his player of the match performance against Newcastle, Palmer defended his team-mates after pundit Tim Sherwood sughgested he needs 'more quality' around him.

The 21-year-old replied: "There's a lot of quality there. Not just me, we've got loads of other players. So hopefully the team can get a bit more and then everyone else will see [the quality]."
