Chelsea star Noni Madueke was booed by Wolves for supporters at Molineux for a bizarre reason on Sunday afternoon.

Chelsea travelled to the West Midlands looking to get some points on the board after a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in last week's season opener.

And after a win over Swiss side Servette in the Europa Conference League play-off first leg in midweek, the Blues made a strong start when Nicolas Jackson headed home after two minutes.

But Madueke, playing on the right flank after scoring at Stamford Bridge on Thursday, received a spiky reception from Wolves fans.

The former PSV winger has never played for any of Wolves' rivals but he was actually being loudly jeered whenever he touched the ball.

And it was due to what Madueke posted on his Instagram story. The England Under 21 international appeared to describe Wolverhampton as "s***" - accidentally sharing the comment to 966,000 followers on his main account before deleting.

The former Crystal Palace and Spurs youngster wrote, "Everything about this place is s***", tagging his location as 'Wolverhampton'.

In a second post, the 22-year-old reflected on his error - adding, "Damnn wrong instagram account.. You lot are too fast" - accompanied by laughing and face-palm emojis.

Every single touch from Madueke was greeted with the same reaction and any mistake he made was met with a loud cheer.

Madueke's slamming of the city proved to rile up the home faithful, who created quite the atmosphere for the 2pm kick-off.

Wolves levelled matters in the 27th minute through Mateus Cunha, who finished past Robert Sanchez after a sublime run from Rayan Ait-Nouri.

Tempers flared after Cunha goaded Jackson, who reacted angrily and grabbed the Brazilian's arm - leading to a mini melee of sorts before the situation was eventually calmed down.

Cole Palmer put Chelsea back ahead with a glorious chip past Orlando Sa, before Jorgen Strand Larsen levelled again in first half stoppage time.

Madueke silenced the Wolves fans to make it 3-2 early in the second half before adding a further two to secure his first Premier League hat-trick.
