A former PSG star is said to have been 'kicked out' of Anfield during his side's Champions League penalty shootout victory over Liverpool after being spotted in the home end.

The French giants progressed to the quarter-finals on penalties after the tie was drawn 1-1 on aggregate over two legs.

Le Parisiens entered the second leg at Anfield 1-0 down, despite dominating the opening 90 minutes in France.

But they levelled things up on 12 minutes through Ousmane Dembele, who capitalised on an error from Liverpool's Ibrahima Konate.

Both sides had opportunities to win the tie before extra time, with goalkeepers Alisson and Gianluigi Donnarumma making important saves.

But the tie went to penalties, with Liverpool's Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones both seeing their spot kicks saved by Donnarumma.

PSG fans were jubilant in their celebrations, with the spot kicks having been taken in front of the Anfield Road End where they were housed.

But one fan - and a former player no less - was not able to join in with those celebrations.

Canal+ reported that former PSG forward Jeremy Menez was ejected from Anfield after being spotted in one of the home ends during the second half.

Menez signed for Le Parisiens in 2011 - shortly after Qatar Sports Investments completed their takeover of the club - and made 110 appearances in three seasons, scoring 19 goals.

His form earned him a call-up to the France squad, and he won two Ligue 1 titles with PSG before being sold to AC Milan in 2014.

The source of the story was former Arsenal and Manchester City star Samir Nasri, who revealed what had happened to his former international team-mate while analysing the game for Canal+.

He said: "A thought for those who were kicked out of the stadium too.

"Jeremy Menez was at the match, and they asked him if he was French. After his answer, they told him to leave the stadium. In the 70th minute, no less!"

Menez works for Canal+'s rival broadcaster DAZN, and has appeared at several Champions League matches this season.

He took photos with several PSG supporters outside Anfield before kick-off - and had to watch the end of the match from the same place.
