Ben Foster might just have angered fans of his former club Manchester United with his prediction for the upcoming season.

United finished third in Erik ten Hag's debut season last term, as well as ending a six-year trophy drought by winning the Carabao Cup.

Newcastle were four points behind the Red Devils and occupied the fourth and final Champions League spot. But Foster, who played 23 times for United, believe they will regress in Ten Hag's second season at the helm.

The club have brought in three major signings in Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund and some fans will have been hoping for a title charge, with United's last Premier League triumph coming in 2013.

Foster doesn't think they're quite there though and with other teams improving, the Wrexham goalkeeper reckons they will just about finish in the top four, where he is expecting both Manchester City and Arsenal to feature.

"If you be honest with yourself, Manchester City are guaranteed top four, " he told the United Stand.

"Arsenal, 90 per cent. You've got two positions to play for there. You've got Newcastle, Liverpool, Chelsea, Aston Villa and then Manchester United.

"I think it’s going to be really tough. I think fourth, I think they are going to nick fourth. That’s a good season you know, I’m not joking."

Foster went on to add that his prediction would change drastically if United were able to bring in Spurs striker Harry Kane.

The England captain was linked but the rumours have dried up and now it looks as though Kane will be staying put - after the North London club rejected an £86 million bid from Bayern Munich.

Foster added: “I’ll go for a top four finish, if they got Harry Kane they would finish second.”

United start the season at home to Wolves on Monday 14 August, before travelling to play Spurs on 19 August.
