Liverpool considering unthinkable replacement for Mohamed Salah alongside Bradley Barcola pursuit

Liverpool are reportedly weighing up a move for Everton winger Iliman Ndiaye as they face competition from Manchester United and Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal.

Andoni Iraola has already welcomed new recruits Jeremy Jacquet and Víctor Muñoz since joining the club, while Andrew Robertson, Ibrahima Konaté and Mohamed Salah have all exited.

Liverpool continue to be linked with a reported £145 million move for France and Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola after missing out on prime target Yan Diomande, who looks set to join Real Madrid in the coming days.

Meanwhile, a fresh report from TeamTalk’s Graeme Bailey claims Liverpool have been alerted to Everton and Senegal winger Ndiaye’s availability despite interest from Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal.

Al Hilal have reportedly made the 26-year-old their priority after securing the transfer of former West Ham United star Crysencio Summerville earlier in the summer.

Manchester United are also keeping tabs on the situation, although Everton remain in a position of strength in terms of negotiations, with the player contracted to the Toffees until 2029.

Everton are keen to open talks over a new long-term contract, with David Moyes wanting the Senegal international to remain at the club as Everton push for Europe in 2026/27.

Liverpool see Ndiaye’s Premier League experience as a huge attraction, and a move would mark the first time an Everton player has signed directly for the Reds since Abel Xavier in 2002.

Ndiaye earns a relatively low wage, receiving a fixed salary of £45,000 per week, according to Capology, putting him outside Everton’s top 10 highest-paid players.

Despite Liverpool’s reported interest, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed Al Hilal will hold direct talks over signing Ndiaye this week.

Iliman Ndiaye makes no secret of Champions League desire

Speaking exclusively to SPORTbible’s Jack Kenmare in June, Ndiaye explained: “You don't know where football will take you next.

“As I've always said, I want to be the best player and, to do that, you have to play at the top. I want to be playing at the top level. I want to be playing Champions League football.”

Detailing how he was disappointed with Everton’s 13th-place finish despite challenging for Europa League qualification for much of the 2025/26 campaign, Ndiaye added: “I don't think I've played enough games. I went to AFCON but, actually, I don't think that's enough. I want to be playing in Europe, in the Champions League. I want to play in all of these games.”

Everton boss Moyes has already made clear that he wants to keep Ndiaye at the club.

Speaking in June, the Scot said: “He is the last person I would consider selling.

“There are others as well [that I wouldn’t want to sell], but my point is I have no interest in hearing the talk if there is talk out there.

“I don’t think there is any club that is not a selling club at the right value for their player. I am not saying that means he is for sale, I am not, I just think it is a genuine thing where there is a price where people would say: ‘well, we have to do something.’

“But it is getting too hard to build teams and also supporters are looking for a quick return which managers are not getting. So why would we be giving up their better players?”

Everton get their Premier League campaign underway against Crystal Palace at Hill Dickinson Stadium on August 22.
