Former Wrexham goalkeeper Ben Foster has revealed what he would do if the club asked him to return to help with their current injury crisis.

In recent weeks, Wrexham keepers Arthur Okonkwo and Callum Burton both suffered injuries that will see them potentially sidelined for months.

During the 2022/23 season, Foster made a shock return to football as he came out of retirement at the age of 40 to spend a year with Wrexham.

And now, the Englishman has spoken out about the possibility of making a spectacular return to the Welsh side to help them deal with their current injury crisis.

During last week's match against Barnsley, Burton suffered a thigh injury which is expected to rule him out for the remainder of the season, while Okonkwo is out until the end of year, if not longer, after breaking his wrist during Wrexham's 1-0 win over Mansfield last month.

However, this is not enough to convince Foster to come out of retirement once again, after Will Brazier asked if he would consider putting the gloves on again.

"Hell no. Definitely not. Not this time round, no," Foster confidently said.

"Chomp [Howard] is a good goalie anyway, to be fair to him. It won’t happen again, definitely not."

After signing for Wrexham in June 2023, Foster helped the Welsh club earn promotion to League Two before retiring again in August 2023, naming his struggles after conceding 13 goals in four matches as a key reason for his decision.

But with him ruling out a return to the side, and in the absence of both Burton and Oknonkwo, third-choice goalkeeper Mark Howard kept a clean sheet during last weekend's 1-0 win over Burton Albion.

But, to help address the lack of players available between the sticks, Wrexham signed Brad Foster on a short-term deal as they await the return of Okonkwo.

And the 23-year-old impressed as he also kept a clean sheet, this time in the Red Dragons' 1-0 win over Crewe Alexandra in the Football League Trophy.

Next up for Phil Parkinson's side is home match against Cambridge United as they look to win their fifth game in a row and continue to push for their third successive promotion.
