Aston Villa have reportedly set their asking price for forward Jhon Duran in the January transfer window - and fans can't believe it.

Duran arrived at Villa from Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire in January 2023, with Unai Emery's side paying an initial fee of £14.75 million to sign him.

The Colombia international has largely been used off the bench in the two years since then, but he has provided Villa fans with some iconic moments, including his winning goal against Bayern Munich in the Champions League back in October.

He also netted from nearly 30 yards out in the comeback 3-2 win over Everton in September.

While Duran's composure when closer to goal will likely be an area for improvement, his other raw striker attributes and his ability to create something out of nothing - from any distance - have alerted other top European clubs to his availability.

There were links with Chelsea last summer amid claims that the Colombian striker asked to leave Villa, but the 21-year-old committed to a new six-year contract in October that will keep him at his current club until 2030.

Now, Villa have reportedly set their asking price for the striker amid interest from Barcelona - and potentially fresh interest from Chelsea.

According to Colombia-based journalist Pipe Sierra, Villa would only countenance the sale of the 21-year-old if they were offered at least £71 million from other clubs.

That would represent a huge profit for Villa on the amount they paid to bring him to the club, with Duran's seven goals in 18 Premier League appearances and his long contract being two key factors behind that price.

Villa have reportedly set their asking price following an inquiry from Borussia Dortmund, who have developed a reputation for bringing in young players from across Europe before then developing them.

In order to sign Duran, though, Emre Can's side would have to smash their previous transfer record - the €35 million they spent to sign Ousmane Dembele from Stade Rennais back in 2016.
