Two Arsenal players made unwanted history during their dramatic draw against Manchester City.

The two best teams from last season played out an entertaining draw at the Etihad Stadium as goals from Erling Haaland, Riccardo Calafiori, Gabriel Magalhaes and John Stones meant the match ended in a 2-2 draw.

Arsenal were reduced to 10 men just before half-time after Leandro Trossard received a second yellow card for kicking the ball away.

The Gunners produced a spirited performance but were denied all three points right at the death by a late City goal.

After the match, a worrying stat emerged about Arsenal stars Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber.

As per Opta Joe, who wrote on social media: “Neither Jurriën Timber (6 passes) nor Kai Havertz (5 passes) completed any of their passes for Arsenal against Man City today, the first outfield players on record (from 2003-04) to play 89+ minutes of a Premier League match and not successfully pass to a teammate. Plan.”

Speaking after the match, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta expressed his displeasure over the decision to send Trossard off.

He said: "I think it’s very clear. Very obvious, hopefully what 100 per cent of what people thinks. It's not my job to come here and judge what happened. My job is to survive in the most difficult environment in football for 55 minutes. To get things done to survive. That’s my job, the rest is not my job.

“It’s the second time it has happened in five games. It’s really, really worrying to see what is the Premier League.”

Arteta added: “Anyone has played football [can see] it’s less than a second. Less than a second. The previous one [Doku] is more than a second. That’s it, simple.

“It’s impossible [to play after that]. It’s very hard already against 11 players, impossible. Because we are put under pressure to defend with six in our box time and time and time again. That’s it.”
