Piers Morgan Claims Arsenal Have 'Strongest Squad in Football History'

The broadcaster has raised eyebrows with his comments.

Piers Morgan has made a bold claim about Arsenal's hopes this season after they booked their place in the Carabao Cup final with victory over Chelsea.

Mikel Arteta will compete in just his second cup final for the Gunners next month, after securing his first trophy back in the 2020 FA Cup final which was contested behind closed doors.

Arsenal will play either Manchester City or holders Newcastle, who face off at the Etihad on Wednesday with Pep Guardiola's side heading into the tie with a two goal advantage.

While many Arsenal fans may be nervous heading to Wembley in March, UK broadcaster and journalist Morgan will be far more optimistic based off his recent comments.

Mikel Arteta's Arsenal are the 'best squad ever'

Morgan, who has recently been in hospital after falling in a restaurant, claimed Arsenal could win the quadruple in an appearance on talkSPORT breakfast on Wednesday.

"I crawled off my deathbed to address the nation about the fact that contrary to your doom-laden introduction, I do think Arsenal could win the quadruple because I'm asking myself, who's going to beat us?" He told Ally McCoist and Alan Brazil.

He insisted: "Who in world football, I'm serious, I'm serious, who in world football right now is going to beat us?

"We are the best squad, we are the best squad assembled in the history of world club football."

Morgan then argued that he isn't the only one making these bold claims, with the bookmakers also backing the Gunners for a historic season.

"Well, not just me says we're going to win a quadruple, the bookmakers, I know that you guys like your bookies, the bookmakers agree with me that right now," he explained.

"Arsenal are the favourites to win the Premier League, the Champions League, the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup and I think we've got a real chance."

After being hit with more opposition from the breakfast show hosts, the 60-year-old doubled down on his claims, insisting that Arsenal's depth makes them the best squad of all time.

He continued: "I've been saying for a while that Arteta's game plan over five years to get a squad where he had two top class players for every position, minimum, has now come to fruition.

"To the extent that last night, for example, you know, Odegaard is out, Saka's out, so in come Eze and Madueke, right? And there's no drop in quality whatsoever.

"In fact, if anything, I think Saka's been so overplayed that Madueke at the moment looks like he may actually be a better option for us until Saka has a bit of a rest," he concluded.

Following his radio appearance, Morgan headed to X to clarify his comments, writing: "I’m not claiming we have the best starting XI ever, I’m saying our 25-man PL squad is man-for-man the strongest in world club football history."

Despite Morgan trying to explain himself, he was still met with significant disagreement from fans online.

One fan wrote: "They’re more likely to win 0 trophies than 4."

Another added: "Piers Morgan knows absolutely nothing about football in general so this opinion makes sense tbf."

A third posted: "Who is gonna beat them ??? United did last week haha!"

"Best squad ever assembled..maybe need to see who Arsenal's top scorers is..OWN GOAL," a fourth fan replied.
