Famous Arsenal fan Piers Morgan has made his feelings clear on Mikel Arteta and one decision the Gunners boss has made in the wake of being dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Newcastle United.

The Magpies booked their place at Wembley following a 2-0 victory on the night at St James' Park through goals from Jacob Murphy and Anthony Gordon either side of half-time in the second leg of their semi-final in the competition.

It meant Eddie Howe's side won 4-0 on aggregate and will face the victors of this evening's other semi-final between Liverpool and Tottenham, which Spurs lead 1-0 heading into the game at Anfield.

The defeat means the Gunners have now exited both domestic cup competitions in the space of a month, having lost on penalties to Manchester United in the FA Cup third round following a 1-1 draw after extra-time at the Emirates Stadium in early January.

At present, Arsenal sit second in the Premier League table but trail leaders Liverpool by six points, with Arne Slot's side also having a game in hand on Arteta's men.

The Gunners have reached the last-16 phase of the Champions League and will face one of Juventus, PSV Eindhoven, Feyenoord or AC Milan in March.

Now out of the two English cups, it means Arsenal's chances of silverware this season now rest in the Premier League and Champions League.

In the recently closed January transfer window, reports swirled that Arsenal were seeking to sign a striker but the club ultimately failed with its bid to prise Ollie Watkins away from Aston Villa, with Arteta himself admitting he was 'disappointed' not to bring in more reinforcements to the forward line.

The Gunners are currently without the injured Gabriel Jesus and also inspirational winger Bukayo Saka, so Kai Havertz is the club's only recognised option at centre forward at present, with many fans and pundits expressing doubt that the German international is sufficient to lead the line and fire Arsenal to the Premier League title.

And celebrity Gunners fan Morgan made it clear he blames Arteta for the decision not to bring in another striker and believes this will mean the club will go without silverware this season.

Taking to X, Morgan wrote: "Arteta deserves this. He needs to stop making ridiculous excuses and accept responsibility for not buying a proper striker.

"A decision that means we once again won’t win a trophy this season."

And in a different post reacting to Arsenal now only being in the race for the Premier League and Champions League, Morgan made a dreary prediction and wrote: "… without a top striker. Two hopes: none and Bob."

Arteta has won the FA Cup in 2020 and the Community Shield twice in his tenure so far in the Arsenal dugout, as well as finishing as runners-up to Manchester City in the Premier League table in the last two seasons.
