David Raya’s grandfather nearly reduced to tears by Mikel Arteta’s kind gesture

David Raya has moved to Arsenal from Brentford

David Raya’s grandfather was nearly reduced to tears after a kind gesture from Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.

On Tuesday afternoon, it was confirmed that Brentford goalkeeper Raya had completed a season-long loan to Arsenal.

The Gunners have reportedly paid a £3 million loan fee with an option to make the loan permanent for £27 million next summer.

During the Spaniard's first day at the club, Raya’s grandfather was involved in a touching moment with Gunners boss Arteta. You can watch the footage below.

Raya’s grandfather was handed an Arsenal shirt with his name on the back.

After seeing the shirt, Raya’s grandfather said: “This is my biggest dream.”

To which Arteta replied: “Enjoy the moment!”

The pair, alongside Arsenal’s sporting director, Edu Gaspar, then took a picture in front of the Arsenal badge.

Edu was heard saying: “The first signing.”

In his first interview with the club's official webiste, Raya said: “I’m over the moon to be able to take this challenge in my career and make the step up.

“I’m really excited to get going and see how the season ends up. I spoke to the boss and he sent me the values of what Arsenal are about. The way that the club is going, it’s growing even more so it is a beautiful challenge to take and I couldn’t say no.”

Whilst Edu said: “We welcome David to us on a season-long loan from Brentford.

“David is a top-quality goalkeeper, who has consistently performed to a high level with Brentford in the Premier League.”

He continued: “With David joining us we are adding quality and depth to our squad so we can perform at the highest possible level in all competitions.”

Raya will wear the number 22 shirt during his time with the North London club.

After starting the season off with a 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest, the Gunners will return to Premier League action on Monday against Crystal Palace.
