Argentina fans were imposed with a difficult question in a video posted on X, who would they choose between Lionel Messi and Diego Maradona?

For some of the younger fans, the debate was over last year when Messi finally reached the pinnacle of world football, winning the World Cup with Argentina over France.

Gary Lineker actually stated that the Qatar World Cup win was the moment Maradona was surpassed by Messi as the greatest player ever, though the former also won the World Cup in 1986.

Both players may have World Cups to their names, but Messi's 106 international goals trumps Maradona's 32, though Messi has played 96 more games for his country than his predecessor.

Lionel Messi also has the distinction of leading Argentina to a Copa America victory in 2021.

Despite all of these facts and figures, there is still a split between fans over which one they would prefer to have.

The video can be viewed below:

Maradona seems to be the overwhelming favourite then, though tied at second seems to be Messi and former Barcelona midfielder Juan Roman Riquelme according to a couple of humourous La Albiceleste fans.

A number of Argentinians single-handedly owe their 1986 World Cup win to Maradona, where the famous 'Hand of God' goal took place, and he also led Napoli to a couple of Scudettos.

Though it may be his personality that wins the fans over, as his eccentric behaviour made him a cultural legend and adored by millions around the world.

Messi is still adored in his homeland, but his introverted, muted personality and lack of emotion causes fans to have more difficulty to connect with him in the same way that they did with Maradona.

The ex-PSG man has often been compared to a God or alien as the things he does on a football pitch are sometimes beyond belief, but Maradona's human struggles and issues were often on public display, making him more relatable to the average football fan.

Regardless of this video, both men are loved by Argentina and picking between them is a hard ask for any of their fans, as both won numerous trophies and accolades in their careers and are viewed as some of the best players of all-time.
