Manchester United fans are convinced Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake that the club "need a left footed centre-back" - hinting at a potential transfer.

United ran out 5-2 winners over The Cherries on Saturday to continue their chase for a Champions League spot.

Following the game, BT Sport filmed the post-match chatter and one clip saw Solskjaer address the Dutchman, with BT's captions reading: "You need a bit of luck from your centre-backs, keep going.'

However, some United fans believe Solskjaer actually said: "We need a left footed centre-back, keep going."

The clip has many wondering if Ake is a transfer target for the Red Devils in the summer transfer market.

Ake has played 27 games in the Premier League this season and has been a standout player in an otherwise bleak season for Bournemouth.

The 25-year-old has two years remaining on his contract and has been linked with Manchester City in recent weeks.

Former Chelsea academy prospect Ake is also regarded for his technical ability on the ball, something Solskjaer expects from his defenders.

United are likely to be in the market for a centre-back this summer and club legend Paul Scholes recently claimed it should be a 'dominant' player next to club captain Harry Maguire.

"Look, I think [Victor] Lindelof has done alright but I just think Maguire with his lack of pace at times (can get caught),"he told BBC Radio Five Live.

"If he's got a really dominant centre-half next to him like a Rio Ferdinand or Jaap Stam who bullies centre forwards I think that would be a big help to the team."

United's defence looked shaky at the weekend but their attacking firepower proved too hot to handle.

Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial gave United a 3-1 lead going into half-time after Bournemouth took a shock lead.

Eddie Howe's side then scored again from a Josh King penalty to make the scores 3-2.

However, Greenwood grabbed his second of the game and Bruno Fernandes bent in a free-kick to extend United's unbeaten run to 16 games in all competitions.

Do you think Nathan Ake would be a good signing for Manchester United?
