Harry Maguire's performance during England's 2-0 win over Germany is being called one of the greatest ever from a Three Lions defender.

Gareth Southgate's side ran out winners at Wembley on Tuesday evening to reach the quarter-finals of Euro 2020.

England opted to start three central defenders and Maguire played in the middle, with John Stones to the left and Kyle Walker to the right respectively.

The Manchester United captain won every aerial duel and didn't put a foot wrong at the back.

He was also fearless in attack, managing to progress play with a number of quality passes.

Maguire was named Man of the Match after helping England continue their run of not conceding at this summer's tournament.

Fans have reacted to Maguire's performance and they think it's time he begins being respected as an incredible defender.

Goals from Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane were enough to take England to a huge tie with Ukraine on Saturday evening.

Maguire spoke following the game and praised the fans in attendance for their passion.

He said per Daily Mail: "That felt like a proper football match, the first time I have felt it in a long time. That was the atmosphere we were missing and the atmosphere football deserves.

"It is magnificent to get the fans back in the stadium, of course to put a smile on their faces after a tough couple of years for everyone in the country.

"We knew the pressure of coming out at Wembley against Germany. We knew we had to win the game, we did it with a great performance, a controlled performance and a magnificent victory and a big celebration in the end.

"It is a magnificent night for everyone involved who follows this country, we put a smile on a lot of people's faces, that's what we do, that's why we play football.

"But come Saturday we know it is business again and we can take the momentum and confidence from the deserved victory we have managed to get."
