Leon Goretzka has shown off his extraordinary body transformation on social media as he waits for the Champions League to return.

The Bayern Munich midfielder helped his side to Bundesliga glory when football returned and he looked in incredible shape.

It's clear to see the 25-year-old put in a lot of work over the lockdown period to buff up and he wants to be even stronger when Bayern resume their campaign against Chelsea.

Goretzka has posted a variety of workout photos to Instagram which gives fans an insight into how he stays so shredded.

The German international revealed in an interview with Bild per Goal that his workout programme was designed to increase his size.

"For me, lockdown was both a crisis and an opportunity," the former Schalke man explained.

"A crisis because you miss football and daily training with the team, but also a chance to gain muscle mass in co-ordination with the physiotherapist.

"In crucial games and moments, it is important to be physically and mentally fit. The weight helps me in tackles, makes me a bit more agile and robust. Not only on the ground in a one-on-one, but also in the air."

Goretzka also revealed to Bayern's official website per BavarianFootballWorks back in June that the lockdown period helped him stick to a much stricter fitness plan

"I simply used the time to get to the gym more often and to do weight training. Of course everything was discussed with the fitness coaches at Bayern, because you have to be careful not to lose your sprightliness. But I think I've found a good mixture.

"I feel I'm in top form on the pitch right now. But I also think - now with the extra midweek games - it's not actually possible to eat enough to get fat. The kilos just drop off again."

Bayern face Chelsea on August 8 and currently lead the last-16 tie 3-0 after victory at Stamford Bridge in February.
