Mourinho's Texts Message Of Support To David de Gea As Goalkeeper Faces Axe

David de Gea has the backing of one of his managers at least.

Jose Mourinho has text David de Gea a message of support, after it emerged that the goalkeeper faces the axe from the starting eleven of the Spain national side.

The Metro has learnt that manager Fernando Hierro has fallen out of favour with the Manchester United goalkeeper, after he blundered Cristiano Ronaldo's shot into the net during Spain's opening World Cup match against neighbours Portugal.

Spain progressed to the knockout stages of the World Cup in Russia after they topped their group on goal difference but they have been far from convincing in their matches, drawing with Morocco 2-2 and narrowly beating Iran 1-0.

And de Gea's confidence has been short ever since the 3-3 draw with Portugal, with Hierro looking to put in Athletico Bilbao's Kepa Arrizabalaga instead.

This has prompted Red Devils boss Mourinho to send a message of support to his number one goalie.

Whoever said Mourinho wasn't a man manager?

"He's my boy,' Mourinho said to RT last week.

"It hurts me to say but he knows, he knows, it's a bad mistake. 'But that happens to the best, the good thing with the best is he will be there next match, not afraid."

The 27-year-old has been linked with a move to Real Madrid all summer but agreed a new contract with Man United on the eve of the World Cup - a five-year-deal.

It's good news for Man United supporters, with de Gea considered as one of the club's most important players. Featured Image Credit:
