Manchester City's Ilkay Gundogan has named the player he views as the most underrated in the entire football world.

Asked the question on Twitter during a Q&A with the hashtag #AskIlkay, he replied simply: "At the moment Romelu Lukaku".

It's unknown whether the City midfielder was deliberately trying to tease Manchester United, as the club sold the Belgian striker to Inter Milan last summer. He's since been in red-hot form in Italy, scoring 37 goals in only 54 games, causing many fans to question the sale.

It's an intriguing answer as some would argue that Lukaku is, in fact, highly rated. The former Anderlecht, West Brom and Everton attacker boasts a superb scoring record, particularly at international level where he boasts 55 goals at the age of just 27.

Many people have criticised United's decision to sell the striker for a £74 million fee. While he struggled during his second season at Old Trafford, after a World Cup summer that saw Belgium go deep into the tournament, the club have been on the lookout for an out-and-out striker since.

Some fans have pointed out that signing 33-year-old Edinson Cavani a year after letting go of a proven Premier League goalscorer in his prime does not, from the outside, look like an ideal long-term strategy.

So whether you consider Lukaku "underrated" clearly depends on your perspective. He's certainly one of Europe's form strikers and Gundogan clearly has a high opinion of his former Manchester-based rival.

In the same Q&A, the 29-year-old Germany international named Nuri Sahin as the "toughest" midfielder he's ever faced in training (during their Borussia Dortmund days). He also singled out Robert Lewandowski, Marco Reus and Mario Gotze for praise.

Gundogan then listed Ronaldinho as the retired player he'd most like to have played alongside, claiming we haven't seen anything like the Brazilian in the years since he's retired. True words.

Lastly, Gundogan was asked for his top-three wishes and first on his list was "global peace". A wonderfully 'Miss World' answer from a wonderfully nice bloke. We sincerely hope you get your wish, Ilkay.
