Southampton's Tweet Praising Alex McCarthy Hilariously Backfires Moments Later

Southampton's Tweet Praising Alex McCarthy Hilariously Backfires Moments Later

Southampton's official Twitter account tweeted praise of goalkeeper Alex McCarthy at the exact same time he gifted Arsenal the lead on.

McCarthy gifted Arsenal the opening goal after a poor pass out from the back allowed Eddie Nketiah to pounce.

However, Saints' social media team clearly didn't see it coming as they'd tweeted a clip of the 30-year-old making a save from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at the exact same time.

Fans on Twitter have reacted to the blunder and they were quick to let Southampton know the delete button was an option.

Burnley React To Jordan North Calling Turf Moor His 'Happy Place' On I'm A Celebrity

Arsenal will be desperate to secure their first win since the Premier League restart after two losses in their first two games.

Matteo Guendouzi failed to make the matchday squad and when questioned prior to the game, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta explained it was down to "squad management".

When asked about the Frenchman's omission, Arteta explained: "Squad management.

"Whatever internal issue we have, we deal with it privately.

"The needs of the team and the needs of the football club are always the same, put the best players on the pitch that are 100 per cent focused to win the game."

Guendouzi was criticised following Arsenal's 2-1 loss to Brighton on Saturday for grabbing Neal Maupay by the throat.

"He was saying the Brighton players were s*** and that he and his team-mates earn so much more than they ever will," a source told the Daily Mail.

"He's done it in other games as well. Arsenal are a decent club and hate that sort of behaviour."
