Fans have joked Karim Benzema 'followed' Cristiano Ronaldo's instruction of who to pass to during France vs Portugal in a perfectly timed clip.

The former Real Madrid teammates squared off in Euro 2020 action on Wednesday evening and played vital roles.

Both men scored twice as the game ended 2-2, with Ronaldo tying the record for most international goals.

One moment in the second half however saw Benzema forget he was playing against Ronaldo, not with him.

The Los Blancos forward passed back to Raphael Varane at the exact same moment 'CR7' moved his arm.

It's the kind of thing Benzema, Ronaldo and Varane did for eight years at the Santiago Bernabeu.

One fan commented: "I think Ronaldo premeditated lol. This is peak bromance, cheeky little joke. Look how happy they were together."

Another added: "LMAO! At least Benz didn't pass it to him based on muscle memory!"

A third said: "Now this is a real captain. Next he's gonna call out his own fouls."

While another simply put: "Not quite sure why, but that makes me happy."

Ronaldo and Benzema shared a smile prior to kick-off, which reminded viewers of the famous Marco Reus and Robert Lewandowski meme.

But it was all business when the action started and Ronaldo put Portugal ahead from the penalty spot on the half hour mark.

Benzema scored a penalty of his own just before half-time and it was his first for Les Bleus since returning to the squad after a six-year absence.

The 33-year-old doubled his tally two minutes into the restart after perfectly timing his run.

France gave away another penalty after Jules Kounde handled the ball, with Ronaldo stepping up to draw Portugal level once again.

Didier Deschamps' side have qualified top of Group F and will face Switzerland in the last-16.

Portugal, meanwhile, have a huge clash with Belgium lined up and manager Fernando Santos thinks Belgium's 48-hour head start helps them.

He said post-match per Daily Mail: "Resting is very important. We will have to mitigate this 48-hour difference.

"We want to recuperate the players and have them fresh for the next match. I thought for what they played today, they have managed to recharge their mental batteries and right now we have to eliminate the fatigue.

"We are going to face very high temperatures but this is not a handicap for us. We are going to study our opponent.

"We already know them but we will see what changed and we will prepare this match with our idea to progress."
