Donald Trump Says 'Wokeism' Is Behind Team USA's Olympics Loss In Extraordinary Rant

Former US President Donald Trump has blamed "wokeism" for the US Women's shock loss to Sweden at the Tokyo Olympics.

The USWNT slipped to a 3-0 defeat in their opening game and it shattered their 44-game unbeaten streak.

Most of their players took the knee prior to kick-off in a stance against racial injustice - thanks to the Olympics relaxing its rules on protests.

It has caused controversy and speaking at a rally on Saturday, Trump seemingly urged his supporters to continue their criticism.

He said: "Woke politics takes the life and joy out of everything.

"Wokeism makes you lose, ruins your mind and ruins you as a person. You become warped. You become demented.

"The US women's soccer team is a very good example of what's going on. Earlier this week, they unexpectedly lost to Sweden, three to nothing."

The crowd in Phoenix, Arizona then interrupted Trump to cheer his speech.

He continued: "And Americans were happy about it. You proved that point before I even said it."

Megan Rapinoe is a key player in the USWNT and has been a thorn in Trump's side for some time given her passionate stance on social issues.

She admitted following the game they got their "asses kicked" by Sweden.

She told ESPN: "We got our asses kicked, didn't we? ... I thought we were a little tight, a little nervous, just doing dumb stuff.

"There's no time to dwell and think about if Sweden is living in our heads or not. We've got another game in three days."

Rapinoe, who came on as a second half substitute, added: "Did we expect this result tonight? No.

"It's frustrating, and it's frustrating that it's Sweden. They found a lot of space on us. I don't even know how many goals we have given up this whole year.

"I don't remember the last time we gave up a goal. So to give up three is not great."

USWNT would then win their second game 6-1 against New Zealand and draw 0-0 against Australia in their final game.
