Cristiano Ronaldo Will '100 Per Cent' Take Manchester United's Penalties Ahead Of Bruno Fernandes

Bruno Fernandes will '100 per cent' give up taking Manchester United's penalties so Cristiano Ronaldo can take them.

Ronaldo's return to Old Trafford was confirmed on Tuesday and he'll become a key figure in attack.

The 36-year-old took free-kicks and penalties at Juventus during his three-year stint, but Red Devils legend Rio Ferdinand thinks he'll share free-kicks with Fernandes.

He explained on FIVE: "I think Bruno gives up penalties but doesn't relinquish free-kicks and corners.

"The free-kicks around the box, he's [Fernandes] going to be on them I think. I think his record demands that he should do that."

Fernandes has been involved in more goals than any United player since arriving in January 2020, with most of those coming from dead ball situations.

Ferdinand continued: "He [Ronaldo] takes the penalties, 100 per cent. They agree to give him the penalties but I think free-kicks around the box, Bruno's just wiping the ball and putting it down."

Both players represent Portugal at international level and Ronaldo has the nod when it comes to spot-kicks.

Many have wondered how Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will balance the attacking talent in his squad.

Five-time Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldo often likes to be the focal point while Fernandes has transformed United in the last 18 months.

Ferdinand thinks Fernandes will see the 'bigger picture' as the club hunt for their first Premier League title in eight years.

"I think Bruno sees the bigger picture, that this guy can get us over the line to win us trophies," he added. "If that means my percentage of goal involvements goes down but he gets his hands on a big trophy, he'd take that all day long."

Ronaldo released an emotional statement on Tuesday morning expressing his delight at returning to England after 12 years away.

"Everyone who knows me, knows about my never-ending love for Manchester United," he wrote on Instagram.

"The years I spent in this club were absolutely amazing and the path we've made together is written in gold letters in the history of this great and amazing institution.

"I can't even start to explain my feelings right now, as I see my return to Old Trafford announced worldwide. It's like a dream come true, after all the times that I went back to play against Man. United, and even as an opponent, to have always felt such love and respect from the supporters in the stands.

"This is absolutely 100% the stuff that dreams are made of!

"My first domestic League, my first Cup, my first call to the Portuguese National team, my first Champions League, my first Golden Boot and my first Ballon d'Or, they were all born from this special connection between me and the Red Devils.

"History has been written in the past and history will be written once again! You have my word!

"I'm right here!
I'm back where I belong!
Let's make it happen once again!

"PS - Sir Alex, this one is for you..."
