Barcelona Could Face 2.5 Year Transfer Ban If Antoine Griezmann Deal Goes Through This Summer

The La Liga giants could be in real trouble for this one

Barcelona could be in serious trouble for their part in the Antoine Griezmann transfer saga.

The Atletico Madrid player is linked with a move to the Nou Camp this summer - and it's no surprise, too.

Griezmann has impressed many, netting 29 times in 49 appearances in 2017/18, arguably his best ever record.

At 27-years-old, he's in the prime of his life. Which is why a club like Barcelona reportedly want to bring him in.

France national side coach Didier Deschamps said this of the whole affair via the Daily Mail: "Griezmann's not annoyed [by all the rumours]."

"He said that he would sort the situation out before the World Cup and that's what he will do."

So, the Les Bleus manager feels that a deal could be wrapped up sooner rather than later.

However, the striker's release clause halves from £174 million to £87 million on July 1st and so the La Liga giants could wait until then, despite having the World Cup to deal with.

But there is an issue. With Barca already in talks with Griezmann, it breaks one of the FIFA rules.

They state: "A professional shall only be free to conclude a contract with another club if his contract with his present club has expired or is due to expire within six months.

"Any breach of this provision shall be subject to appropriate sanctions."

This could be a real slap on the wrists for Barcelona, who want to bring in their target to bolster their chances of a decent Champions League run next season. They'll want to improve on their hapless quarterfinal blow to AS Roma, the Italians coming from behind to beat them 4-4 on away goals.

Well, it was a treat for the neutral anyway.
